LIT Program Description: 24-month rotational program to learn multiple aspects of the business. The rotation would consist of 12 months on site as a technician learning what we do alongside top-quality teammates. Fellows will enter the field as Associate Technicians, and complete necessary requirements to meet Technician II level. After initial field rotation, the fellows will rank interest in back-office departments, where they will complete 3, 4-month rotations.  

Field Rotation: As a Technician, you will utilize mechanical and electrical skills by overseeing the maintenance on our wind turbines. You will also maintain routine activities to keep the turbines up and running utilizing basic drawings, schematics, and work procedures. During this portion of the program, Fellows will be assigned to a field location at one of our contracted sites.  

Technicians are required to: 

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on wind turbines bringing your skills in: mechanical, electrical, and hydraulics 

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance consisting of troubleshooting on mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems 

  • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices 

  • Demonstrate the ability to learn advanced troubleshooting and repair of the wind turbines 

  • Establish and maintain general safety from the system / Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) 

  • Support with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repairs to support a site 

  • Generate required reports and other paperwork 

  • Learn how to recognize occurrences of wind turbine error codes and appropriately report the issue  

  • Assist in all areas of site operations 

  • Assist with high-voltage system maintenance and repair 

Here are some of the additional learning opportunities available to you as a Fellow:  

  • Sitting with Site Managers, Coordinators, and Leads to learn operational processes on site such as: 

  • Plan of Day Meetings 

  • Site Budget Management 

  • Site Inventory Management 

  • Learning different components of the contract bid, out of scope work, and site takeover process from a manger’s perspective 

  • Shadowing the recruitment and interview process for new technicians 

  

Back Office Rotations: In order to gain a deeper understanding of the business from multiple perspectives, Fellows will complete a series of 3 support function rotations. During this time, fellows will be based in Houston TX, although some departments may require frequent domestic travel as part of their work. 

Exact duties will vary by department, below is a list of all departments eligible for a rotation:

  • People & Culture 

  • Engineering 

  • Finance & Accounting 

  • Information Technology/SCADA Monitoring 

  • Business Development/Sales & Marketing 

  • Operations Back Office (Specialized Field Services & Repower) 

  • Supply Chain & Procurement 

  • Business Process Improvement 

Additional Responsibilities:  

  • Fellows are required to complete additional DWT Learning & Development courses including: 

  • CAVU 

  • TIGER Leadership Wheel 

  • Profit Specialist Training 

  • Fellows will serve as members of our TIGER Committee – a cross-functional group that promotes team building and company culture through various initiatives 

  • Fellows will complete a capstone project at the end of their back-office rotations that encompasses a reflection on what they gained during their experience and how it ties into their corporate assignments. This could include profit proposals, machine room initiatives, strategic expansion proposals, sustainability initiatives, digital transformation or talent development proposals.  

Experience/Education  

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University, 

  • Wind/Renewable Energy disciplines preferred, or relevant discipline 

  • An affinity for all things mechanical.  

  • Back-office skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).   

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, and follow instructions, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.    

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.   

  • Ability to deal with problems involving at least one concrete variable in standardized situations.    

  • Employees must be physically fit enough to free- climb 300 ft multiple times a day while wearing 25+ lbs. of climbing gear and work in extreme weather conditions.   

  • Due to PPE constraints, those climbing turbines may not exceed 260 lbs.   

  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.   

  • The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus because of potential work in close confines.   

  • Must be capable of rescuing teammates anywhere in tower in the event of emergency.
